The Meat Cutter Specialist is a key member of our team at Save Mart Supermarkets, responsible for meeting daily production needs and quality standards in meat cutting and preparation. This role requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Receive, stock, cut, grind, wrap, weigh, and price meat department products to meet customer demands.
- Order and stock prepackaged deli items and frozen food products that pertain to the meat department.
- Pack, prepare trays, weigh items to properly label, rotate product, and remove out-of-code date products to ensure proper inventory control and product rotation.
- Provide exceptional customer service, answering questions about products and services, and cutting and trimming meat to size for display or as ordered by customers.
- Operate hand tools and power equipment, such as grinders, cubing machines, and power saws, to prepare specific cuts of meat from larger portions.
- Clean and sanitize work areas and equipment, wash, wipe, and clean tools, equipment, and counters, and sweep and/or hose floor surfaces.
- Supervise and direct Apprentice Meat Cutters as required.
- Ability to comprehend and follow specific instructions.
- Ability to perform simple and repetitive tasks.
- Ability to maintain work pace appropriate to a given workload.
- Knowledge of meat (to include primal cuts), poultry, fish, and pre-packaged products.
- Understanding of special product needs that arise for seasons/holidays and trends in cooking and recipes that affect demand.
- Knowledge of department food safety and hazardous materials rules/regulations.
- Ability to use and care for professional cutlery, saws, tenderizers, grinders, wrapping equipment, and other department-related tools.
- High School Diploma (or G.E.D.) or additional job experience.
- Prior Meat Department experience, including cutting of meat.
