Compensation starts at $17.14 per hour

As a Youth Engagement Facilitator within our school-age programs, you will be responsible for designing and implementing a diverse range of enrichment activities tailored for children in grades K-8. Your focus will be on fostering interactive and enriching social and cultural experiences while ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants. We prioritize child and team safety, adhering to licensing regulations and the core values of the YMCA.

Our before and after-school initiatives cultivate a child-centered atmosphere that promotes learning, character development, healthy living, and nurturing relationships. With a strong commitment to meeting accreditation standards and providing extensive training in evidence-based practices, you will have opportunities for personal growth while making a positive impact on our children, families, and communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit a thorough understanding of youth development and create high-quality program delivery by ensuring a safe, supportive, and engaging environment.
  • Foster a positive classroom atmosphere that promotes respect, responsibility, teamwork, and inclusivity.
  • Develop and lead youth in various indoor and outdoor activities that cater to both group and individual needs, taking into account diverse abilities.
  • Ensure effective supervision of all children, maintaining age-appropriate safety and well-being at all times.
  • Engage positively with children, parents/guardians, and fellow team members to cultivate a respectful and supportive environment.
  • Acknowledge and celebrate children's efforts and achievements, providing assistance and encouragement as necessary.
  • Model self-control, respect, and cooperation to children and colleagues.
  • Utilize arrival and departure times to communicate with parents/guardians and build strong relationships.
  • Adhere to the program schedule and maintain accurate records of attendance, meals, and other necessary documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to other school-age program activities.
  • Complete a minimum of fifteen hours of professional development annually through training, in-service, or continuing education, and maintain a record of such activities.
  • Uphold confidentiality regarding all center staff, children, and families.
  • Support the YMCA's mission and assist with center operations as required.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 19 years old and possess a minimum of 30 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited college/university, including six semester hours related to school-aged care, child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, camping, or a related field.
  • Must meet and maintain requirements for fingerprint background check clearance and provide medical clearance documentation along with other pre-employment prerequisites.
  • Ability to fulfill physical requirements as outlined in the job description; reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities.
  • This position is part of a union.

Child Abuse Prevention Commitment:

  • Support the YMCA's dedication to child abuse prevention by reporting any potential health or safety hazards to your supervisor.
