Compensation Details:
Salary: This position typically begins at an annual salary of $42,666. Compensation may vary based on education and relevant experience. This posting is specifically for actively licensed QMAs.
A Typical Day:
The core responsibilities of this position include:
- Ensuring the safety of residents and maintaining order, which may involve restraining individuals when necessary.
- Escorting residents to various activity and therapy areas within the facility and off-site for medical, dental, or legal appointments while ensuring maximum security.
- Assisting in the execution of each resident's treatment plan.
- Monitoring residents during meals, classroom sessions, bathroom visits, and in communal areas.
- Observing, reporting, and documenting the condition and behavior of residents.
- Implementing therapeutic interventions utilizing de-escalation techniques and approved methods for behavior management.
- Aiding residents in maintaining their living spaces, clothing, and personal items.
- Securing entrances, screening visitors, operating communication systems, issuing keys, and guiding visitors throughout the unit.
- Conducting room searches for potential contraband to ensure the safety of all residents.
- Providing motivational support, counseling, and instruction in daily living skills as outlined in individual treatment plans.
- Continuously assessing clients' training needs to meet treatment objectives for transitional living.
- Advising clients on appropriate social conduct.
- Creating a safe environment conducive to learning, self-esteem, and independence.
- Coordinating client activities under professional guidance, adapting treatment plans to meet individual needs.
- Developing clients' community living skills through practical activities such as grocery shopping and utilizing public transportation.
- Managing clients' finances and teaching budgeting skills.
- Supporting occupational and recreational therapy programs to enhance independent living capabilities.
- Performing routine clerical tasks, including scheduling, supply ordering, maintaining records, and answering unit telephones.
- Obtaining and administering medications under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Assisting in managing clients' aggressive behaviors.
- Providing basic first aid in case of injuries, including administering antiseptics, bandages, or performing CPR and the Heimlich maneuver as necessary.

Qualifications for Success:
The ideal candidate should possess at least:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent, and
- A minimum of 1+ years of experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.
Relevant certifications and coursework may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Certification or willingness to obtain certification in CPR/AED for professional rescuers.
- Specialized knowledge and ability to apply psychiatric nursing care practices, including medication administration.
- Proficiency in writing reports and maintaining accurate records and charts.
- Capability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of behavior modification techniques and the ability to apply self-defense and restraint methods safely.
- Understanding of resident behaviors and the ability to anticipate and manage behavior changes.
- Familiarity with institutional and unit procedures.
- Ability to assist residents with housekeeping and daily living tasks.
- Knowledge of therapeutic rehabilitation principles and methods.
- Awareness of the needs of mentally ill client populations.
- Practical knowledge of teaching techniques, including motivation, progress assessment, and behavior modification.
- Ability to operate standard medical equipment.
- Competence in completing required documentation promptly and accurately.
- Valid driver's license for operation of a motor vehicle in the State of Indiana.
- Ability to manage and distribute client trust accounts.
- Skill in recognizing client behaviors and taking appropriate actions.
- Familiarity with existing mental health provider systems.
