About the Position

We are seeking a dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor I to join our team at the Amity Foundation. As a Registered/Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals struggling with substance abuse through our Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDT).

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse, as well as excellent interpersonal, written, and communication skills. You will work collaboratively with participants, transition/reentry staff, and institution staff to deliver face-to-face rehabilitative programming services.

Responsibilities
  1. Deliver treatment programming services to participants and conduct group and/or individual sessions.
  2. Effectively implement scheduled program curriculum, leading and participating in face-to-face group and individual meetings utilizing motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other therapeutic processes.
  3. Engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectations for participation and completion.
  4. Work directly with participants to develop and implement treatment/action plans and educate them about supportive networks as they return to the community.
  5. Review treatment plans, evaluate, and record treatment progress, noting visible changes in appearance, behavior, and demeanor of program participants.
  6. Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential participant records. Evaluate and document the progress of participants assigned to their groups.
  7. Complete all delivery documentation requirements. Summarize participants' background, treatment plan, and recovery process outcomes.
  8. Prepare accurate, concise, informative reports, records, and plans consistent with Amity standards, and comply with applicable clinical and administrative rules.
  9. Liaise with transition/reentry staff, plans, and prepares transitional documents as directed by CDCR for continued community program activities.
  10. Work collaboratively with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS, and institution staff. Support and collaborate with co-faculty, including Supervisors, Directors, and Regional Directors.
  11. Participate in monthly, block, cross-training, curriculum training, technical assistance training, or other training as appropriate.
  12. Other duties as assigned.
