About the Role

Symbotic is seeking a highly skilled Industrial Controls Engineer to join our Hardware R&D team within our Industrial Controls organization. As an Industrial Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of industrial control systems, ensuring they meet customer requirements and site-specific needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Implementation

    Define and plan technical tasks related to research and development projects, prioritizing innovative development efforts to advance industrial control technology.

  • Network Design and Development

    Lead Industrial Controls Network Design, both IT/OT. Plan VLAN/NAT architecture, deploy switch configurations.

  • Control System Development

    Spearhead the development of new control system functionalities and modifications, leveraging advanced techniques and tools to drive innovation.

  • Test Strategy Execution

    Oversee the execution of test strategies tailored to R&D projects to validate and refine developments.

  • Code Library Development

    Collaborate with developing standard code libraries for use within Symbotic control systems to control new and existing automation systems.

  • Documentation

    Document standard code library and final control system programming.

  • Design Reviews

    Actively participate in design reviews for technical solutions within existing architectures, providing specialized expertise to enhance system performance and accelerate development progress.

  • Root Cause Analysis

    Conduct thorough root cause analysis to identify technical challenges and develop innovative solutions.

  • Knowledge Sharing

    Document research findings, development processes, and simulation results to capture valuable insights and facilitate knowledge sharing within the R&D team.

Requirements

  • Education

    Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineer, Computer science or in a related discipline.

  • Experience

    5+ years of Design and Implementation of Industrial Control Systems using PLC, HMIs, Industrial Robotics, and VFD/Servo Drives.

  • Technical Skills

    5+ years in ground up Programming of PLCs, HMIs, and related equipment for Industrial Control Systems. (Rockwell Automation products preferred)

  • Network Topology and Design

    Extensive knowledge in network topology and design (OT Network, VLAN, NAT, Switch configuration).

  • Power Systems and Servo Controls

    Knowledge of Power Systems and Servo Controls to design motion control systems.

  • AC/DC Drive Control Architecture

    Experience with AC/DC Drive Control Architecture.

  • Rockwell PLCs

    Expert level experience in Rockwell PLC's (ControlLogix, GuardLogix).

  • Industrial Automation Network Technology

    Expert level of Industrial Automation network technology.

  • HMI Applications

    Experience developing and programming HMI applications. (Ignition8, FactoryTalk ME/SE)

  • Electrical and Mechanical Schematics

    Able to understand and read electrical and mechanical schematics.

  • Troubleshooting

    Strong background in troubleshooting complex automated system.

  • JIRA and Agile Methodology

    Experience with JIRA and agile methodology.

  • Inductive Automation Products

    Knowledge in Inductive Automation products is a plus.
