The Ellis Medicine Mechanic I is responsible for ensuring the optimal operation of all mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems and equipment at Ellis Hospital locations. This includes inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing systems and equipment, as well as performing project work planning and layout, and ordering materials and modifications to existing systems or new installations.
Key Responsibilities- Inspect and repair all mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems and equipment at Ellis Hospital locations.
- Plan and execute project work, including layout and ordering of materials and modifications to existing systems or new installations.
- Perform plumbing repairs and installations, including hot/cold water systems, steam/hot water heating systems, and associated pumps.
- Install and repair sinks, toilets, hoppers, and basins.
- Repair and install fire protection system components, including stand pipes, sprinklers, and valves.
- Repair sewer and medical gas systems.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical equipment, including pumps and components of hot/cold water circulating, condenser, and chilled water cooling towers, vacuum, and condensate returns.
- Diagnose and repair autoclaves, blanket warmers, sonic washers, washing machines, dryers, food service equipment, and mechanical beds.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair air handling, ventilation, and exhaust systems.
- Repair and install steam coils, steam traps, hot water coils, chilled water coils, hot water converters, and reheat coils.
- Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic and electrical temperature controls, including thermostats, relays, controllers, regulators, damper motors, humidifying equipment, and actuating valves.
- Maintain water treatment levels for cooling tower and heating systems.
- Replace and clean filters and belts associated with air handling and patient room fan coil units.
- Monitor, modify, and troubleshoot the DDC Energy Management system.
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections, complete work orders daily, participate in the continuous improvement and implementation of the system, and report problems or discrepancies to the supervisor or manager.
- Inspect, coordinate, and work with other staff, departments, and outside contractors to ensure quality work, safe, and cost-effective processes and procedures, and completion of work.
- Provide a safe, comfortable environment for all patients, visitors, and staff by ensuring optimum operation of the systems.
- Complete mechanical rounds daily and record operating data per procedure.
- Clean up shop and assigned mechanical rooms, keep work area clean and safe.
- Responsible for following safe work techniques, wear the proper personal protective equipment, and utilize proper engineering controls.
- Assist in reviewing and developing department policies and procedures.
- Coach, mentor, and train staff as needed.
- Required to fill in as the Boiler Operator as needed, including operating and monitoring the steam plant to ensure continuous steam supply to Ellis Hospital and Sunnyview Hospitals, to provide energy for heat, hot water, kitchen equipment, and sterilization. Monitor and log all readings and data as required.
- Complete required training as assigned.
- Comply with Hospital and department policies, work rules, and requirements.
- Adhere to patient privacy policies and procedures, maintain confidentiality.
- High School Diploma required.
- Three (3) years' of experience in health care facility maintenance or construction, is preferred.
- Must be able to read and understand mechanical drawing, schematics, and specifications, and the ability to use appropriate measuring equipment, such as manometers, thermocouples, flow meters, etc.
- On-call rotation required, and must be able to report to work when called in or when emergency situations arise.
- Valid driver's license to operate Hospital vehicles required.
$15.84-$22.96/hour. Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
