Job Summary:
The Transtar companies have been a vital component in the country's industrial development since the late 1800s. As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic with the Gary Railway Company of Transtar, LLC, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the reliability and efficiency of our heavy equipment and mechanical road/shop equipment.
Responsibilities:
* Inspect, maintain, and repair diesel and unleaded heavy equipment, including 300-ton cranes, front-end loaders, and company vehicles
* Diagnose and repair electrical and hydraulic problems on heavy equipment and mechanical shop equipment
* Utilize hand, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools to accomplish job assignments
Requirements:
* Valid driver's license required
* CDL Class B license with air brake and hazardous material endorsement preferred
* High School Diploma or equivalent required
* Trade school or associate degree in mechanic required
* Minimum 5 years of diesel mechanic experience, preferably with heavy equipment
* Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call
* Ability to walk on uneven terrain for long distances
* Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions
* Perform manual labor and lifting in excess of 50 pounds
