Cafeteria Substitute

This is a substitute position in the Cafeteria Department of the El Monte Union High School District. The successful candidate will assist in the preparation and serving of food items at an assigned school cafeteria or snack bar, maintaining a clean and sanitary environment.

• Assist in the preparation of food items, including chopping, slicing, grating, and assembling food for sandwiches, salads, and main dishes.
• Set up work and serving areas, ensuring that serving lines are properly stocked with adequate food, beverages, and supplies.
• Prepare main dishes and entrees, checking recipes and estimating or measuring quantities needed.
• Assemble and prepare sandwiches, slice meats, and grate cheese.
• Wash, dry, clean, and store dishes, pots, pans, utensils, trays, and other kitchen equipment.
• Perform cashiering duties, receiving cash and making change as assigned.
• Serve lunch to students and staff, receiving money and making change as assigned.
• Operate a variety of kitchen equipment, appliances, and utensils in a safe manner.
• Maintain routine records related to inventory and quantity of items sold.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic math skills and ability to make change quickly and accurately.
• Ability to lift heavy items properly and safely.
• Knowledge of sanitation and safety practices related to cooking and serving food.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

The position requires standing for long periods, moderate lifting of 15-44 pounds, bending, and stretching. The cafeteria or snack bar environment can be subject to extreme heat.
