Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and families to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to the specific needs of students with learning disabilities, developmental delays, and other exceptionalities.
  • Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and differentiated learning approaches to address diverse learning styles and academic needs of elementary school students with special needs.
  • Provide direct instruction in core academic subjects (reading, math, writing) aligned with state standards, with a focus on closing learning gaps and promoting academic success for future grade levels.
  • Integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies into your lessons to foster emotional well-being, self-advocacy skills, and positive peer relationships among students.
  • Deliver specialized instruction and support services aligned with each student's IEP goals, focusing on targeted interventions to address specific learning challenges.
  • Monitor student progress, analyze data, and report on the effectiveness of instructional strategies to inform ongoing learning plans for students with special needs.
  • Partner with students and families to set goals and celebrate achievements throughout the school year.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education for elementary school students.

Qualifications:

  • Minnesota State Teaching License with an endorsement in Special Education or a related field.
  • Prior experience working with students with special needs in an elementary school setting is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of child development and learning theories as they apply to students with diverse needs in elementary school.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with state and federal standards.
  • Excellent classroom management and instructional skills to create a positive and engaging learning environment for elementary school students with special needs.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with students, parents, general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other school staff.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting on student progress.
  • A passion for helping elementary school students with special needs overcome challenges, develop a love for learning, and reach their full potential in a supportive school environment.
