About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team at Baylor Scott & White Health. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures, working closely with our surgical team to provide exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the surgical team in preparing the operating room for procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and functioning properly.
  • Prepare and maintain the instrument table, ensuring it is organized and comprehensive to avoid damage to instrumentation and incorrect needs or instrument counts.
  • Identify and rectify any discrepancies in instrument trays, contacting relevant personnel to avoid delays or injury.
  • Set up the operating room according to surgical procedure schedules, arranging sterile setup of instrument table supplies and equipment required for specific procedures.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies during surgical procedures.
  • Perform surgical counts of sponges, sharps, instruments, and miscellaneous items, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team staff, passing sterile supplies and equipment to surgeons and assistants during procedures.
  • Assist with draping and positioning the patient, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the procedure.
  • Receive and process surgical specimens, verifying source and passing them off the sterile field to the circulating nurse.
  • Assist with placement of surgical dressings to the operative site following surgical case completion.
  • Disassemble and recycle surgical instrumentation as indicated, disposing of sharps, fluids, and waste at the end of the surgical procedure.
  • Prepare soiled instrumentation for transportation to the decontamination area, ensuring it is properly cleaned, decontaminated, sterilized, and maintained.
  • Clean the operating room following each case, returning equipment to its designated storage area.
  • Follow infection control policies, AORN guidelines, OSHA regulations, and other relevant standards to ensure a safe work environment for self, coworkers, and patients.
  • Maintain inventory of clean and sterilized surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies, ordering supplies and documenting equipment use and cart supplies as needed.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.
  • Less than 1 year of experience in a surgical technology role.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from NBSTSA or NCCT, or completion of formal training in surgical technology from the military or public health service, or employment in a surgical technology role in a healthcare facility prior to September 1, 2009.
