Job Summary

College of the Canyons is seeking qualified adjunct faculty members to join our Ethnic Studies department. As an adjunct instructor, you will play a vital role in shaping the educational experience of our students and contributing to the academic excellence of our institution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in Ethnic Studies, including lectures, discussions, and other instructional activities.
  • Develop and implement curriculum that aligns with the department's goals and objectives.
  • Assess student learning and provide feedback to students.
  • Participate in departmental and institutional service activities, such as committee work and professional development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Qualifications
  • Possession of an unexpired California Community College Instructor Credential in Ethnic Studies.
  • OR - Master's in an Ethnic Studies discipline.
  • OR – A Master's Degree in American Studies/Ethnicity, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Central American Studies, Latin American Studies, Cross Cultural Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, Asian-American Studies, or African-American Studies.
  • OR - Equivalency: An official transcript documenting successful completion of any Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education AND official transcripts documenting successful completion of 24 semester units in the discipline at the upper division and graduate level, a minimum of which must be 12 graduate level semester units.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Recent experience working with diverse student populations and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of traditionally minoritized students within higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support underrepresented students.
  • Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the implications of the Hispanic-Serving designation for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices.
Working Conditions

Assignments may include Monday through Friday (day and evening), as well as Saturday classes. Adjunct Salary Rate: Starting at $88.30 per hour.
