Job Summary

Montefiore Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Pathology Assistant to join our Surgical Pathology department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing various tasks related to the examination and processing of surgical specimens.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receiving and processing surgical specimens from the operating room and endoscopy suite.
  • Performing gross examination and submitting tissue sections for histologic diagnostic examination.
  • Preparing and cutting tissue samples for frozen sections in a cryostat.
  • Staining routine Hematoxylin/Eosin and performing other routine work.
  • Ensuring high standards of quality control in the laboratory.
  • Procuring fresh tissue samples for research and specialized studies.
  • Organizing and storing surgical specimens until disposal.
  • Using voice recognition software to dictate gross examination reports.
  • Participating in organ evisceration and brain removal in autopsy cases.
  • Properly disposing of tissue and chemical waste.
Requirements
  • State of New York License for Pathologist Assistant required.
  • Knowledge of Histology and Immunopathology procedures preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment, including cryo-rotary microtome, laboratory information system, and surgical instruments.
  • Knowledge of established protocols for surgical pathology and autopsy techniques.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
