Role Summary:
The Youth Recovery Support Specialist plays a vital role in the First Episode Psychosis Program, utilizing a Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) model to assist young individuals who have recently encountered their initial episode of psychosis. This program provides a comprehensive suite of services, including medication management, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis, Family Education, Case Management, Supported Education and Employment, and Certified Peer Support services. The approach emphasizes the importance of the young person's perspective and choices in their treatment journey.
This full-time role involves collaborating closely with young individuals to facilitate their treatment planning process. The Youth Recovery Support Specialist will advocate for and provide peer support to empower youth in setting and achieving their recovery objectives, fostering self-advocacy throughout their recovery journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver peer counseling and support to enhance the quality of life for individuals.
- Encourage recovery through mentorship, instilling hope and empowerment.
- Identify and connect individuals with community resources and natural supports.
- Utilize personal recovery experiences to aid in the development of treatment plans.
- Monitor progress on treatment plans, guiding necessary adjustments and celebrating successes.
- Meet youth in community settings to provide services effectively.
- Maintain documentation of progress in accordance with program guidelines.
- Model essential skills for employment, community integration, and independent living.
- Engage in weekly group supervision and bi-weekly individual supervision sessions.
- Transport clients and families to appointments as needed.
- Ensure organization of program files and documentation within youth-specific charts.
- Participate in required training to uphold CPS Certification.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
- Implement the 5 core values of Trauma-Informed Care in all practices: Safety, Trustworthiness, Choice, Collaboration, & Empowerment.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Certification as a peer specialist (CPS) from an accredited training program.
- Experience managing personal recovery from psychosis or similar mental health challenges, with the ability to assist others in similar situations.
- At least 12 months of successful work experience or 1 year of post-secondary education totaling 24 credit hours within the last 3 years.
- Ability to share personal experiences in a manner that provides hope and encouragement to those served.
Preferred Skills:
- Demonstrated competency in personal recovery and coping strategies related to psychosis.
- Understanding of the cultural values of the Transition Aged Youth population.
- Ability to help youth develop empowerment skills and combat stigma through self-advocacy.
- Knowledge of community resources for independent living and ability to teach these skills.
- Experience in establishing self-help and educational groups based on youth input.
- Bilingual capabilities are a plus.
Work Environment:
- Work will occur in both standard office settings and community environments, including homes, schools, and healthcare facilities.
