Job Summary:

As a Paramedic at Bon Secours Mercy Health, you will provide direct patient care under the guidance of a RN or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and within policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide basic patient care and tasks, including vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, assists with mobility, performs lab draws, ECG's, basic wound care, and other unit-based specialty duties under the direction of an RN or Physician.
  • Perform the ED Tech Advanced role, which includes additional patient care and tasks, including colostomy care, IV insertion, IV removal and IV site care, transport on monitor, identifies need and initiates CPR, foley catheter placement, and other unit-based specialty duties under the direction of an RN.
  • Complete patient rounding as assigned.
  • Assist with giving patient instructions and discharge, administer medication in a safe manner consistent with the State Scope of Practice and Bon Secours Mercy Health Policies and Procedures.
  • Provide 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed.
  • Act as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and concerns.
  • Provide high level customer service to all patients, patient's families, community providers, visitors, and employees.
  • Provide accurate, precise, timely documentation as applicable to patient care.
  • Participate in handoff report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving.
  • Perform delegated tasks once competency has been validated.
  • Collect data, within scope.
  • Complete patient screenings as applicable.
  • Promote quality and safety by seeking to continually improve the processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently, problem solve, and be able to resolve conflict while working under considerable stress.
  • Maintain knowledge of policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Successful completion of a Paramedic program at the certificate or associates degree level (required)
  • BLS Basic Life Support or ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support and PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred at hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care; ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of hire)
  • Current paramedic-level certification (required)
  • 1 Year Paramedic (required)
  • 2-3 Year Paramedic experience (preferred)
