The Senior Transportation Manager will lead the Transportation department in creating a culture that prioritizes people, safety, service, and cost. Key Responsibilities
  • Safety and Service Excellence
    • Achieve all safety, service, and cost targets in the Transportation department.
    • Lead with a safety-first mindset to ensure the well-being of US Foods associates, customers, and the general public.
  • Leadership and Development
    • Oversee and develop Transportation Managers through coaching, training, and problem resolution.
    • Develop drivers and Transportation personnel by discussing performance and creating plans to address gaps.
  • Team Building and Performance
    • Build high-performing teams by reviewing staffing requirements and monitoring interviewing and hiring of Transportation personnel.
    • Review performance, coach to achieve service and safety targets, and deliver disciplinary action.
  • Operational Excellence
    • Monitor production goals and maintain a zero-error attitude to ensure accuracy and customer satisfaction.
    • Anticipate, analyze, and troubleshoot problems with deliveries and devise cost-effective and legal solutions.
  • Process Improvement
    • Ensure optimum delivery reliability to the customer by developing efficient and effective production flow processes.
    • Identify and stop waste, and improve processes to complete work more safely and efficiently.
  • Analysis and Reporting
    • Analyze daily performance measures; identify any weaknesses; and recommend changes to the VP of Operations to ensure that productivity objectives are achieved.
  • Union and Labor Relations
    • In union facilities, assist HR and the VP of Operations in interpreting the collective bargaining agreement, administering discipline, settling grievances, and participating in arbitrations as required.
Requirements
  • Experience
    • A minimum of five years of experience in transportation/delivery supervision is required.
  • Knowledge and Skills
    • Broad knowledge of transportation/delivery operations, methods, and procedures.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and people development skills.
    • Ability to openly and effectively communicate with all associates/departments within the company.
    • Strong understanding of DOT, inventory control, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
    • Ability to interpret financial and operational data.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.).
  • Education
    • High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
