Job Overview:
Travel nurses are required to operate within a 50-mile radius, with no local travelers accepted. The position offers a 3x1 schedule, with the option to pick up a 4th shift if staffing needs arise. The unit is focused on inpatient surgical care, and the start date is immediate, with orientation every other week. The contract duration is for 13 weeks.

Patient Demographics:
Typical cases include general surgery, abdominal surgery, urological surgery, orthopedic surgery, hysterectomy, mastectomy, spine surgery, and bariatric surgery.

Unit Characteristics:
This fast-paced surgical unit will accept pediatric surgical patients aged 12 and above, depending on the procedure. Previous surgical experience is required due to the nature of the unit.

Patient Ratios:
1 nurse to 6 patients
Number of Beds: 24
Average Daily Census: 18

Qualifications:
- BLS Certification
- Valid VA or compact License
- Minimum of 1 year of surgical experience
- Proficiency in surgical unit tasks including colostomy care, feeding tube management, blood product administration, central line blood draws, and IV management.

Schedule Details:
Work schedule consists of 3 shifts of 12 hours each, with every other weekend required. Scrubs are navy blue.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Charge nurse experience
  • Previous travel nursing experience
  • Familiarity with Meditech
  • Experience in community hospital settings
