Perinatal Nurse Specialist

Magnet Medical is seeking a dedicated Perinatal Nurse Specialist to join our team in Oregon. In this role, you will provide comprehensive care to women during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period.
Job SummaryThe Perinatal Nurse Specialist will be responsible for assessing and monitoring the health of pregnant women at various stages of labor, including gathering health histories, vital signs, and physical assessments. This individual will also educate patients on labor and delivery processes, pain management options, and what to expect during childbirth.
Labor Support and MonitoringThe successful candidate will monitor the progress of labor through regular assessment of contraction patterns, cervical dilation, fetal heart rate, and maternal vital signs. They will administer medications, including epidurals, Pitocin, and pain relief options, as prescribed, and monitor their effects. Additionally, they will provide continuous emotional support and pain management throughout the labor process, using comfort measures such as positioning, breathing techniques, and offering encouragement.
Assisting with DeliveryThe Perinatal Nurse Specialist will assist obstetricians or midwives during vaginal deliveries, including providing instrumentation assistance, suctioning, and other necessary actions during the birth. They will participate in cesarean section procedures by ensuring the sterile field, assisting with the delivery process, and providing immediate newborn care after birth.
Postpartum CareThis individual will monitor the health and recovery of both the mother and the newborn in the immediate postpartum period, including assessing vital signs, bleeding, and uterine tone. They will assist with breastfeeding support, including teaching proper latch techniques, positioning, and addressing any concerns related to infant care. Furthermore, they will provide education on postpartum recovery, self-care, and newborn care, such as diapering, bathing, and recognizing signs of illness.
Requirements and QualificationsTo be successful in this role, the Perinatal Nurse Specialist must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. A strong foundation in nursing principles, with experience in labor and delivery, is essential. The ideal candidate will be certified in neonatal resuscitation and have a current RN license.
Estimated SalaryThe estimated salary for this position is $120,000 - $150,000 per year, based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week.
