Job Summary

The LaHaye Rec Lifeguard is a vital member of the Liberty University Campus Recreation team, responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our patrons at the LaHaye Rec and Fit Aquatic Center and David's Place Pool. As a lifeguard, you will be the first point of contact for our guests and will play a critical role in maintaining a clean and organized facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Safety and Service: Ensure the safety of our patrons by maintaining a visible presence in the pool area, responding to emergencies, and providing excellent customer service.
  • Facility Maintenance: Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the facility, including stocking supplies and maintaining locker rooms and public spaces.
  • Risk Management: Assist in the maintenance and adherence of risk management procedures and policies, ensuring compliance with University policies.
  • Lifeguarding and Rescue Techniques: Remain up-to-date with American Red Cross lifeguard rescue techniques and perform as necessary.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Effectively communicate any issues or customer complaints to the Aquatics Manager on shift and work effectively as a team member.
Requirements
  • Current Lifeguard Certification: Possess a current Lifeguard Certification from a recognized organization.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification: Possess a current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification from a recognized organization.
  • Availability and Flexibility: Be available to work a variety of different shifts, including weekends, early morning, afternoon, and late night shifts.
  • Physical and Sensory Abilities: Possess the physical and sensory abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the job, including swimming, standing, walking, and climbing stairs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification: Possess a current Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification from a recognized organization.
  • One Year of Lifeguarding Experience: Possess one year of lifeguarding experience.
  • Customer Service Experience: Possess experience in a customer service position.
Working Conditions

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position will vary depending on facility need. Employee can be assigned to an outside position that will deal with extreme temperatures and weather conditions. Employees may also be scheduled in a humid indoor aquatics facility during a shift.
