Position Overview

This role involves delivering extensive testing engineering support to the Proterra Customer Engineering Validation Team. Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist Validation Engineering with the installation and verification of instrumentation on vehicles and systems.
  • Support both onsite and offsite testing as necessary, including durability assessments, chamber evaluations, and partner program validation tasks.
  • Engage actively and take ownership of all responsibilities related to work execution.
  • Formulate engineering validation and characterization strategies for Proterra's electric vehicle technologies.
  • Produce clear and precise documentation concerning testing activities.
  • Facilitate vehicle-level testing to confirm Proterra battery packs within customer platforms.
  • Create DVP&Rs and apply suitable testing methods and equipment for execution.
  • Generate detailed documentation related to tests, including reports on components under examination and their status.
  • Document identified failures comprehensively and collaborate with engineering to ensure resolution.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with testing equipment.
  • Prioritize and accomplish tasks to meet established deadlines.
  • Communicate results effectively with a diverse range of individuals and teams.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by management.

  • The Customer Engineering Team serves as the direct interface to the customer, representing various Proterra internal development groups from a technical standpoint.
  • You will report to the Validation Engineering Manager and collaborate with other engineering team members.
  • This position allows for a hybrid work arrangement, combining time spent at a local test track and remote work.

Your Qualifications Include:
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant Engineering disciplines or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of testing experience in the automotive or transportation sectors, with an understanding of high voltage storage systems.
  • Familiarity with digital and analog interfaces for PCs and testing systems.
  • Knowledge of high voltage products and automotive CAN communication networks.
  • Experience in a research and development testing environment.
  • Proficient in conducting tests and troubleshooting issues independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with P-CAN explorer or Canalyzer.
  • Familiarity with testing instrumentation and data acquisition systems such as Dewesoft.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic circuit components.
  • HV safety training.
Physical Requirements:
  • Willingness to work various shifts as needed; may require travel to different locations.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
  • Capable of walking, standing, crouching, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and reaching in both large and confined spaces.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and ability to discern color variations and depth perception.
  • Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motions.
Environmental Considerations:
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with extreme temperature variations.
  • Willingness to wear protective clothing or respiratory equipment as needed.
  • Exposure to irritant chemicals and gases.
Travel Requirements: 10-20%
