Bus Driver Trainee Position

Candidates will undergo comprehensive training to provide safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services by operating school buses to transport pupils to and from school and related activities, while maintaining harmonious relationships with transportation staff, district administrators, teachers, coaches, and community members.
Key Responsibilities- Train to transport students along assigned routes, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations in accordance with state and federal laws and Fort Bend ISD Policies & Procedures.
- Operate school buses in a safe manner, following state, federal laws, and Fort Bend ISD Policies & Procedures.
- Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections in accordance with state, federal laws, and Fort Bend ISD Policy & Procedures.
- Report any accidents, incidents, and/or maintenance problems in accordance with Fort Bend ISD Policies & Procedures.
- Adhere to route description directions and established schedules.
- Keep the interior of assigned vehicles clean, presentable, and properly fueled in accordance with Fort Bend ISD Policies & Procedures.
- Physically assist passengers in emergency evacuations.
- Provide physical assistance and/or supervision to special education students on and off the bus during split shift work days.
- Operate wheelchair lift equipment and assist students with special equipment such as safety restraints, car seats, seat belts, wheelchairs, and tie-down systems.
- Demonstrate punctuality and reliability by regular attendance to meet established training completion timelines and expectations.
- Assist as a Bus Monitor as needed while training to become a full-time school bus driver.
- Communicate effectively with parents, students, and administrators.
- Complete all required paperwork (route changes, vehicle repairs, head counts) and submit to appropriate authorities in a timely manner.
- Administer and enforce student discipline in accordance with Fort Bend ISD Policies & Procedures and prepare discipline reports as necessary.
- Read and interpret route directions and use maps to follow directions.
- Attend and successfully complete training sessions needed to care for special education students requiring critical care services.
- Attend required in-services, safety meetings, and training sessions.
- Maintain a cooperative attitude with fellow employees, supervisors, parents, and school administrators.
- Report any difficulties or changes in students to the Area Supervisor.
- Adhere to student Individual Education Plan documents and maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain the special needs bus binder of students and bus information, including up-to-date route information, turn-by-turn directions, and ridership information.
