Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mainframe Operations Manager to join our team at the State of Illinois. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for managing and directing the 24/7 operations of input/output Control Services, Mainframe Software Services, and Systems Operations Center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and direct the 24/7 operations of input/output Control Services, Mainframe Software Services, and Systems Operations Center.
  • Develop, maintain, and meet production goals and objectives.
  • Perform project and system management duties for mainframe hardware and software.
  • Prepare Invitation for Bid specifications and Requests for Proposal technical and service specifications.
  • Coordinate with the Office of Learning and Development to assist with the planning, development, and coordination of training events, conferences, and related development programs for CTO staff.
Requirements
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in management information systems, data processing, telecommunications, or directly related fields.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in management information systems, data processing, or telecommunications in a public or business organization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of professional experience supervising staff, including but not limited to, scheduling training, conducting performance evaluations, assigning and reviewing work, administering discipline, and identifying staffing needs.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience with product life cycle management to include budgeting and strategic planning.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience managing IT operations, services, or programs.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience overseeing projects.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience developing procurement specifications specific to IT hardware/software/services.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience participating in, and responding to, internal/external audits.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience with customer service including service support for ongoing operations, service level agreements (SLA), and key performance indicators (KPI).
Working Conditions

The selected candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
