Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Veterans Health Administration team as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. As a CRNA, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality anesthesia care to our patients.

About the Role

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist will administer and provide anesthesia-related care to patients before, during, and after surgery. You will work closely with various medical practitioners, such as surgeons, dentists, and podiatrists, and act as a liaison between the patient and their leading care provider.

Key Responsibilities

Some of the key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Performing pre-anesthesia evaluations, preparing anesthesia plans, delivering all forms of anesthesia, and following up on all general anesthesia cases.
  • Providing emergency airway and resuscitation management throughout the facility.
  • Assisting with quality assurance activities facility-wide and specific to the Surgery department, and conducting routine maintenance and cleaning of anesthesia equipment.
  • Translating the principles of professional nurse anesthesia practice into appropriate patient care.
  • Performing the pre-anesthetic patient history and physical, including the collection of preoperative consults and data, from which an appropriate anesthetic plan is formulated.
  • Ensuring the anesthetic risks, benefits, and options are described to the patient.
  • Administering inhalation, regional, intravenous, local, and topical anesthetics and continuously evaluating the patient's physical status and responses to anesthesia.
  • Consistently monitoring and accurately recording on the anesthesia record.
  • Performing post-anesthetic management of patients in order to optimize the recovery from anesthesia and minimize pain.
  • Providing patient care that is abreast of changing concepts and advancements in the profession, while working effectively in an interdisciplinary environment for improvement of services for patient care.
  • Appropriately responding to all codes and airway rescues.
  • Practicing with colleagues and peers utilizing a collaborative team concept of anesthesia care while demonstrating effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and interdisciplinary teamwork.


Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Have a degree in nursing from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate state accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), an accrediting arm of the National League for Nursing; or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, and unrestricted registration and the possession of a Certificate from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
  • Have current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • Be certified by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists.
  • Be proficient in written and spoken English.
