Stantec is seeking an experienced Archaeological Consultant to join our team in the Midwest region. As a key member of our cultural resources team, you will be responsible for leading and conducting cultural resource investigations, providing technical direction and mentoring to junior staff, and supporting business development efforts.
Key Responsibilities- Project Leadership: Serve as principal investigator and/or project archaeologist/field director for cultural resource investigations, working with a variety of clients and sectors, including utilities, transportation, and renewable energy.
- Staff Supervision: Provide supervision, training, and technical direction to developing staff, ensuring their growth and development in the field of cultural resources management.
- Financial Management: Manage financial aspects of selected projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of services.
- Quality Assurance: Support the delivery of high-quality technical products by following quality review and independent review protocols.
- Business Development: Assist with and lead business development and marketing efforts, building new client relationships and maintaining existing ones.
- Proposal Development: Lead technical elements of proposal development, including scope, budget, and schedule.
- Professional Development: Maintain a high professional profile externally through membership in professional organizations and continually increasing client contact base.
- Leadership Opportunities: Potential to develop into both a client-facing and internal-facing leadership position for Stantec.
- Technical Expertise: Assist in analyzing current and emerging technical issues, and implementing actions to proactively address market, business, regulatory, and/or economic issues.
- HSSE Compliance: Participate in Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work.
- Professional Qualifications: Professional writing, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Education and Experience: Meets the qualifications as described in the Secretary of Interior's Professional Qualification Standards for Archeology and Historic Preservation.
- Certifications: Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) or qualifications that meet requirements to become an RPA.
- Regulatory Compliance: Demonstrated experience with Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Statutes and Illinois State Agency Historic Resources Preservation Act (20 ILCS 3420) and/or comparable regulatory compliance for archaeological projects.
- Leadership Experience: Experience leading and conducting all phases of cultural resource investigations.
- Networking: Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrate leadership in striving to continuously improve technical performance.
- Initiative: Champions new ideas and initiatives and creates an environment that supports creativity and innovation.
- Self-Awareness: Self-awareness of technical and/or professional abilities and the ability to determine when assistance from senior staff is needed.
- Project Execution: Disciplined approach to project execution and technical excellence.
- Communication Skills: Ability to provide written and verbal direction on project delivery.
- Safety Awareness: Ability to convey safety information to field staff.
- Technical Skills: Ability to use field data collection equipment such as GPS and Environment Systems Research Institute (ESRI) Collector and Survey 1-2-3.
- Driving Record: Good driving record and valid driver's license required.
- Background Check: Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in anthropology/archaeology or related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of environmental consulting experience with experience in cultural resource management and archaeological compliance survey primarily in Wisconsin/Illinois and the Midwest region.
- Team Experience: Team-oriented experience in consulting acquired over at least 5-10 years of progressively responsible cultural resources positions.
- Leadership Experience: Demonstrated experience leading and managing field crews and knowledge of compliance under the NHPA and state laws.
- Specialty Experience: Experience in specialty areas including oil and gas, electric and gas transmission and distribution, renewable energy, and utilities.
- Regulatory Experience: Demonstrated positive reputation and relationships with environmental regulators.
- Technical Writing: Strong skills in technical writing.
- Digital Data Collection: Experience with digital data collection methods and techniques and use of GIS.
