Job Overview

Inova Lorton Surgery Center is seeking a dedicated and skilled Full-time Gastrointestinal/Endoscopy Technician to join our esteemed Gastroenterology/Endoscopy (GI/Endo) team. This role is pivotal in providing exceptional care to our patients. The position entails a schedule of 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday. Located within a comprehensive outpatient facility, Inova Ambulatory Surgery Center at Lorton is strategically positioned to serve the community. Our center is licensed by the state and holds Medicare certification, along with AAAHC accreditation.

We are committed to delivering efficient outpatient services, utilizing cutting-edge technology in a supportive and friendly atmosphere, staffed by highly-trained and compassionate professionals.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Day shifts only; no nights, weekends, on-call duties, or holidays

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform cleaning and decontamination of patient-use items, including disassembling scopes, rinsing, soaking, and utilizing washing/disinfection equipment.
  • Maintain essential records, such as biological testing and unit checks.
  • Conduct necessary environmental and equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Assist with room preparations for specific endoscopic procedures.
  • Receive and appropriately label faulty equipment before sending for repairs.
  • Manage supply distribution and stock storage areas.
  • Support the scrub role during procedures.
  • Assist physicians with specimen retrieval during endoscopic procedures.
  • Help with patient positioning under the guidance of a registered nurse.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of one year of experience as a GI Technician, including scope processing.
  • Completion of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses & Associates (SGNA) Program is highly preferred.
  • BLS certification is mandatory.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Familiarity with endoscopic procedures and equipment.
  • Proficient in setting up and operating endoscopy equipment, including video systems and related accessories.
  • Ability to maintain a sterile environment and adhere to infection control protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail and capacity to perform tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Capability to prioritize tasks and adapt to a dynamic work environment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and documentation practices.
  • Awareness of safety procedures and compliance with regulatory standards.
