Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatric RN to join our team at Amedisys. As a Psychiatric RN, you will provide high-quality patient care in the comfort of their own homes, working closely with our interdisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial nursing evaluations, including behavioral health and psychiatric nursing needs.
  • Observe and evaluate patients' physical and mental status for complications and medication side effects.
  • Maintain awareness of indicators in patients' behavior that call for changes in treatment modalities.
  • Provide education and support to patients and caregivers on cognitive and technical aspects of care, medication regimes, disease processes, safety interventions, and other interventions.
  • Administer IM medications, perform lab draws, and collect specimens.
  • Act as a case manager in coordinating care for patients as assigned.
  • Complete documentation timely and accurately.
  • Supervise LPNs and HHAs.
  • Regularly communicate patient progress to the clinical manager, psychiatrist, and care team.
Qualifications
  • Current RN license, specific to the state(s) you are assigned to work.
  • One of the following qualifications to meet CMS requirements for psychiatric nursing in the home care setting:
    • An RN with a master's degree in a mental health nursing or psychiatric specialty, with nursing experience in an acute treatment unit or other psychiatric setting.
    • An RN with a bachelor's degree in nursing, with one year of recent nursing experience in an acute treatment unit or other psychiatric setting.
    • An RN with a diploma or associate's degree in nursing, with two years of recent nursing experience in an acute treatment unit or other psychiatric setting.
