Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Attorney Editor to join our team at The Florida Bar. As an Attorney Editor, you will be responsible for editing and working with the Managing Attorney Editor in the organization and marketing of legal publications.

This is an exempt position located in Tallahassee, FL, and is not a remote position. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctorate and Florida Bar membership, as well as two years of experience in writing, editing, legal research, or a related field.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviews chapters submitted by authors, researching to ensure legal and substantive accuracy and edits for grammar and style.
  • Writes original material as needed in cooperation with the authors and Managing Attorney Editor.
  • Develops and organizes new editions and supplements of publications.
  • Recruits and coordinates activities of authors and steering committee members for books assigned to this position.
  • Reviews case law, legislative material, rules, and other publications to remain current on subjects covered in manuals.
  • May assist in preparing promotional material, and possibly traveling to and participating in marketing for publications at Bar meetings and other events.
Requirements
  • Juris Doctorate and Florida Bar membership.
  • Two years of experience in writing, editing, legal research, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of legal research techniques, databases, Adobe Acrobat, The Rules Regulating The Florida Bar, and Florida Rules of Court Procedure.
  • Skilled in proper English spelling, grammar, and punctuation, excellent legal and analytical communication, both oral and written, MS Word, Excel, and internet research.
