Safety Training Specialist

Position Overview:


BHI Energy is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Safety Training Specialist with a strong background in the electric utility sector. This role is dedicated to fostering a culture of safety and excellence within the workplace.

The individual in this position will be responsible for delivering high-quality training on electrical and general safety protocols to both new hires and current employees. The role may require travel to various regional locations based on the company's operational needs.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver effective technical training materials.
  • Oversee the apprenticeship program and coordinate ongoing educational training sessions with management.
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide necessary remedial training.
  • Maintain a valid CDL for a minimum of two years and achieve certified CDL instructor status.
  • Utilize diverse training methods to deliver top-tier instruction.
  • Teach OSHA ET&D 10 & 20 hour courses.
  • Conduct CPR and First Aid training sessions.
  • Demonstrate expertise in adult learning principles and industry standards.
  • Identify and promote best practices to enhance workplace safety and awareness.
  • Align training objectives with measurable outcomes that support the company's safety culture.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Act as a safety representative during emergency situations or in the absence of other personnel.
  • Conduct field safety observations.
  • Identify gaps in safety procedures and work processes.
  • Recognize and report near misses and positive safety practices.
  • Contribute to a safety culture that values transparency and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid state driver's license; CDL Class-A preferred.
  • At least 7 years of experience as a Journeyman lineman in overhead transmission and underground distribution; Department of Labor Certification is a plus.
  • Certification in OSHA 500, 510, or the ability to obtain such certifications.

Travel Requirements:

Willingness to travel 50% - 80% of the time is essential.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively instruct and mentor students.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Physical ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
