POSITION SUMMARY:

Discovery Solutions, Inc. is in search of a qualified individual to take on the role of Senior Controls Engineer. This position is pivotal in overseeing electrical and controls engineering for extensive projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design control systems from the ground up, encompassing hardware, software, and networking.
  • Develop electrical panel designs and conduct power calculations.
  • Perform risk assessments and select appropriate components.
  • Program control systems and manage their installation and commissioning.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate should be well-organized, technically proficient, and possess strong oral and written communication skills. Experience in a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with engineers, designers, and drafters is essential.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required. Degrees in other related fields may be considered if accompanied by relevant work experience.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 5 years of experience in roles that encompass the responsibilities outlined above is required. Experience with ASTM standards, the attractions industry, and safety engineering is preferred.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Familiarity with contract documents and specifications.
  • Ability to gather field data and document findings accurately.
  • Proficient in system design functions.
  • Skills in planning, customer focus, timely decision-making, and problem-solving.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

Experience with hardware and software from major industrial manufacturers (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) is essential. Knowledge of Ethernet-based distributed remote I/O systems is also required.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct system design calculations and analyses, including short circuit protection and load flow.
  • Ensure compliance with local and governmental design codes as well as client standards.
  • Prepare documentation for system configuration and design, including detailed control system descriptions and schematics.
  • Support project needs by working flexible hours during installation and commissioning phases.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time may be necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The role requires visual acuity, color perception, hearing, and physical dexterity, including lifting and climbing.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Expected to work in a standard office environment as well as diverse industrial and construction settings.
