Safety and Security Officer Job Description

Springs Rescue Mission is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Safety and Security Officer to provide a safe and secure environment for our employees, volunteers, clients, residents, visitors, and guests.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Control access to the main entrance by screening clients and visitors, utilizing a magnetometer to detect and prevent weapons, contraband, and drugs from entering the facility.
  • Interact with and monitor client behavior, maintaining good rapport and providing excellent customer service.
  • Encourage clients to comply with facility policies and procedures.
  • Assist in monitoring, logging, and storing client property in storage lockers.
  • Support regular locker searches and conduct random inspections throughout the facility for surveillance of hazardous situations, trespassers, and any illegal activities.
  • Complete logs, incident reports, and maintain assigned paperwork and other required documentation and reports.
  • De-escalate potential crisis situations and document all such situations and interventions.
  • Detect and/or prevent fires, vandalism, theft, or infractions of the rules and maintain assigned posts.
  • Monitor reception areas and front desks, providing crisis intervention when needed to maintain a safe environment.
  • Assist the Safety Security Department in preparing and executing fire drills and other related emergency drills.
  • Interact with local police, fire, and emergency response teams as required.
  • Make hourly rounds throughout assigned posts, including hallways, stairwells, floors, bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchen, and office spaces.
  • Call police, fire department, and other first responders as needed or directed.
  • Monitor video surveillance systems and intrusion and fire alarm systems.
  • Provide duties related to fire incidents, evacuation of the building when necessary, utilizing appropriate procedures.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all assigned equipment.
  • Adhere to the highest ethical standards, personally and professionally.
  • Attend all required meetings and reviews SRM emails regularly.
Requirements:
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED, Associates Degree preferred.
  • Previous experience working within a Christian recovery environment desired.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and is a constant witness, demonstrating a Christ-centered and compassionate attitude in dealing with people.
  • Possesses a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to effectively organize, prioritize, self-motivate, and deliver results.
  • Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution, crisis management, knowledge of video surveillance and fire alarm systems.

  • Excellent listening skills and able to communicate effectively and write clearly to complete required paperwork.
  • Must be able to work effectively with people from diverse cultures with compassion.
  • Must be able to perform basic math.
  • Must be willing to attend all safety/security training provided by SRM.
  • Ability and willingness to work as a team member and support the mission and goals of Springs Rescue Mission.
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekends, and overtime if necessary.
Working Conditions/Physical Factors:
  • Works in a typical shelter or housing unit environment.
  • Occasionally: sitting, must be able to lift up to 75 pounds, bend or stretch, stooping, exposure to outdoor or inclement weather, pass/utilize physical security training, jumping.
  • Frequently: walking, talking, manual dexterity, ability to climb 8+ flights of stairs, high volume of walking - 4+ miles per shift, kneeling, running.
  • Continuously: standing, adequate vision and hearing, good mental condition to withstand consistently medium to high levels of stress.

Salary and Benefits: $17.00/hour DOE. Full benefits package to include: medical benefits with SRM paying 85% of the medical premium, voluntary Dental, Vision, Allstate Accident Plan, SRM-paid Short-Term and Long-Term Disability, Life Insurance, and AD&D. Also offered are 8 paid holidays, 21 days of accruable PTO, paid 'Soul Care Retreat' days (up to 4 depending upon availability), and a 403b retirement plan with SRM-match after one (1) year, 100% vested beginning DOH; (Benefits are subject to change based on reevaluation or benefit plan changes annually.)

Benefits Begin: Benefits begin at 1st of the following month after completing a full 30 days of employment (I.E. start date 4 January 2021, benefits initiate 1 March 2021)
