Sports Coach

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Sports Instructor to lead sports classes for children and adults of all ages at the YMCA of Greater Boston. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, expertise in various sports, and the ability to work independently.

• Coach sports programs using provided curriculum and develop own curriculum to emphasize skill development, sportsmanship, and the YMCA's core values.
• Demonstrate designed skills and outcomes to foster learning and skill development.
• Maintain group focus and attention to activities being run, and have a strong coaching presence to positively redirect participants as needed.
• Meet players where they are at in age and skill level, challenging them with achievable skills, drills, and games appropriate for their age group.
• Maintain a safe playing environment by reducing risks, ensuring guidelines are followed, and age-appropriate play.
• Prepare for each class session by reviewing and practicing skills, drills, and activities, setting up the play field in advance, and cleaning up after.
• Provide feedback to players in real-time to help them improve their skills, using positive encouragement and motivational statements.
• Serve as a role model, setting the tone of expected behavior.
• Communicate with parents, sharing successes, challenges, and information in a professional and respectful manner.
• Keep accurate records for attendance.
• Ensure policies and procedures for attendance, participation, and safety are followed at all times.
• Attend meetings, required trainings, events, and additional functions within the YMCA as needed.
• Be seen as a leader for our Y by engaging with families, children, and other Y employees.

• One to two years of related experience, such as a sports coach or volunteer.
• CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications, as well as Child Abuse Prevention Training, which will be provided upon hire.
