Pediatric Medical Assistant Job Description

Job Summary:

The Pediatric Medical Assistant will provide efficient and compassionate patient care within our medical facility. Working closely with healthcare professionals, this position will assist with clinical tasks, patient intake, and maintaining accurate medical records.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide Patient Care: Performs routine (noninvasive) patient care functions as prescribed by licensed healthcare personnel following established clinic policies and procedures within the defined scope of education, training, and responsibilities.
  2. Assist Healthcare Providers: Assists healthcare providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  3. Prepare Examination Rooms: Prepares examination rooms by ensuring cleanliness and stocking necessary supplies.
  4. Ensure Vaccine Compliance: Ensuring all child vaccines are up to date in patient chart and CAIR national website before going in with the provider.
  5. Conduct Health Exams: Ensure Snellen eye exams and audio exams are completed for children 3yrs during Well Child Exams.
  6. Obtain Vital Signs: Escorts patients to examination rooms and obtains vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints.
  7. Administer Medications: Administers immunizations and all medications per provider's order after a licensed health care professional verifies the correct medication and dosage.
  8. Provide Patient Education: Assists with patient education and provides information regarding medications, treatments, and follow-up care.
  9. Maintain Infection Control: Ensures compliance with infection control protocols and maintains a safe and clean environment.
  10. Collect and Record Patient Data: Collects and records patient data, including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, pulse oximeter, and peak flow measurement, according to established policies and procedures.
  11. Perform Lab Tests: Performs lab tests, including finger sticks, after appropriate training and verification of competency.
  12. Apply Aseptic Technique: Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control per policy and procedures.
  13. Document Patient Information: Documents patient information, medical history, and treatment plans accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  14. Participate in Meetings: Participates in assigned staff and other meetings, including quality improvement, case conferences, and in-service meetings.
  15. Perform Clerical Functions: Performs routine clerical functions as assigned.
  16. Maintain Confidentiality: Maintains confidentiality at all times.
  17. Participate in Training: Participate in JWCH's customer service training called AIDET on an annual basis.
  18. Perform Other Duties: Performs other duties and tasks as may be required or assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Education: High School Diploma or GED
  2. Certification: Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant school with a current MA certificate
  3. Verification: Verification of appropriate hours in approved Medical Assistant course to perform venipuncture
  4. Certification: Current BLS certificate from the American Heart Association
  5. Experience: Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting, preferably in pediatrics.
  6. Skills: Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and empathy.
  7. Preferred Qualifications: Two years' experience in an ambulatory clinic preferred
  8. Language Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
  9. Ability to Multitask: Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Language Preference: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
