Forklift Operator Job Description

Pelican Staffing is seeking a skilled Forklift Operator to join our team. As a Forklift Operator, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating a forklift to move materials and products within a warehouse environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate a forklift to load and unload materials and products from storage areas, loading docks, and delivery vehicles.
  • Ensure the maintenance of company forklifts by performing daily inspections and reporting any issues to management.
  • Unload materials and merchandise from incoming vehicles and receive and put away incoming goods and merchandise.
  • Load trucks for customer delivery and ensure that all products are properly secured and protected during transit.
  • Process and load orders, reading production schedules, customer orders, and shipping orders to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
  • Verify product and quantity accuracy and assist in inventory level maintenance and inventory counts.
  • Responsible for following warehouse safety regulations and performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • 3+ months of relevant experience and/or training.
  • Valid certification to operate forklifts or the ability to obtain such certification within the specified time period as defined by management.
  • Loading, unloading, picking, packing, or moving goods in a warehouse environment; forklift / cherry picker experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, work orders, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Basic computer knowledge and proficiency and/or a demonstrated technical aptitude to learn.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and be self-motivated to accomplish assigned tasks and goals.
  • Demonstration of attention to detail and safety-mindedness.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to properly operate various forms of warehouse machinery.
  • Must be able to handle and work physical inventory; required to lift up to 75 lbs or greater with assistance following standard operating and safety procedures.
  • Must have hand, arm, foot, and leg dexterity and be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, climb, and balance.
  • May be required to wear various forms of protective equipment (shoes, gloves, protective eyewear, etc.)
  • May be required to pass forklift and/or other warehouse equipment certifications (written and/or driving).
  • Assigned work shifts may vary and/or rotate.
  • Overtime may be required; extended day, evening, and weekend work may be required as job duties demand and may include little to no advanced notice.
