The Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) is a Registered Nurse with a Master's degree in Nursing from a university with a specialized CNL program. This role is designed to align with WellStar's Nursing Professional Practice Model and Care Delivery Model, and is based on the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's "Competencies and Curricular Expectations for Clinical Nurse Leader Education and Practice" (2013).
Key Responsibilities- Clinical Leadership: The CNL will provide clinical leadership and expertise to the healthcare team, focusing on quality, patient safety, and outcomes.
- Care Environment Management: The CNL will manage the care environment, including microsystem care processes and care delivery dynamics, to optimize and redesign them to better serve the patient and team.
- Clinical Outcomes Management: The CNL will manage clinical outcomes, including disease management and risk anticipation, to ensure patient care delivery needs are met.
- Education: Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school or university with a CNL program recognized by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
- License and Certification: Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact, Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor, Advanced Cardiac Life Support-Preferred or ACLS - Instructor-Preferred or ACLS - Provisional-Preferred, and certification as a Clinical Nurse Leader from the Commission of Nurse Certification.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years acute care nursing for similar patient population, with progressive experience in healthcare including direct patient care, educating staff, and problem solving of unit or organizational issues.
- Leadership: Ability to lead, mentor, and develop staff.
- Communication: Excellent conflict resolution skills, diplomatic, tact, and listening skills.
- Technology: Adept at using technology as a tool to support real-time education at the point of care.
- Quality Improvement: Uses quality improvement methodologies to evaluate failures and patient safety practices at the microsystem level.
