L3Harris Technologies is experiencing significant growth and is actively seeking an Optical Engineer. This position is ideal for an intermediate professional who possesses practical expertise in the field of photonics.

In this pivotal role, you will offer technical guidance for our current technologies while also innovating new solutions to engage and support our military, government, and commercial clients.


Key Responsibilities:

- Serve as Principal Investigator for Internal Research Programs
- Lead the advancement of internal metrology capabilities
- Provide support and oversight for related product line initiatives


Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering with an Optics Focus, Physics, or a related discipline with a minimum of 6 years of experience, or a graduate degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
- 4 or more years of hands-on experience with photonic instruments and testing equipment.
- 4 or more years of experience in test suite automation and data acquisition techniques, including proficiency in software packages such as MATLAB, LabVIEW, C++, and Python.
- 3 or more years of experience in modeling and/or designing photonic systems.
- 3 or more years of experience in the characterization of photonic integrated circuits.
- 3 or more years of experience in schematic design and layout of printed circuit boards.
- 1 or more years of experience in developing instrument calibration techniques and procedures.

- Familiarity with ISO 17025, IEC 61300, and related standards is preferred.


Preferred Additional Skills:

Digital Lightwave Communications:

- Knowledge of physical layer systems, components (EDFA, Modulators, SFPs, Switches, etc.), and modules for optical communication systems.
- Understanding of coherent RF photonics for the transport and processing of analog signals (radar, wireless communications, etc.) on optical systems.


Photonic Integrated Circuits:

- Experience in enhancing Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) for photonic systems utilizing photonic integrated circuits.
- Proficiency in optical multi-input multi-output (MIMO) digital signal processing (DSP) to improve optical system throughput and bit error rate (BER) through post-processing techniques.


Photonic Modeling:

- Capability to model photonic systems using software packages such as MATLAB, OptSim, BeamProp, Zemax, or HFSS.
- Experience with product development for government contracts is a plus.
