Job Title: Reading Specialist

Prince Edward County Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified Reading Specialist to join our team. As a Reading Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting the academic success of our students.

Job Summary:

The Reading Specialist will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring school intervention and remediation programs in reading for elementary students. This includes collaborating with teachers, paraprofessionals, and other members of the educational community to develop a strong literacy plan based on classroom needs, teacher content knowledge, and student assessments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide support to teachers in the area of reading, including coaching and professional development.
  • Develop and implement reading assessments to inform instruction and identify areas of need.
  • Coordinate school-wide reading intervention and remediation programs, including iStation and Read 180.
  • Work with teachers to develop and implement individualized reading plans for students.
  • Provide small group and individual remediation for students as needed.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • Master's degree in reading or related field preferred.
  • At least five years of teaching experience in the primary grades.
  • Knowledge and skills related to scientifically based reading research and its implementation.
