As a member of the Checkout Engineering team, you will play a crucial role in developing and delivering applications and services that enhance PayPal's checkout experiences. You will collaborate closely with product, design, and analytics teams to understand the needs of our users.

Your Impact:

As a backend engineer, you will deliver comprehensive solutions and features throughout the software development lifecycle. You will shape the future of PayPal's customer-facing checkout products through:

  • Implementing technical designs and contributing to architectural decisions.

Daily Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of software engineers, fostering collaboration and innovation.
  • Take ownership of features and projects, ensuring quality throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Lead design and implementation of solutions for client-side applications using relevant technologies.
  • Contribute to architectural discussions and advocate for best practices.
  • Optimize software performance and resolve bottlenecks to enhance user experience.
  • Ensure adherence to clean, scalable, and reliable software principles.
  • Implement critical non-functional requirements and improve automated testing strategies.
  • Collaborate with other teams for seamless integration and deployment of applications.

Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of experience in software development, focusing on large-scale applications.
  • Proficiency in multiple server-side languages such as Java, C++, C#, Go, Python, Kotlin, or Ruby.
  • Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases.
  • Experience building modern, resilient backend systems.
  • Knowledge of observability tools and production system monitoring.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to mentor team members and collaborate effectively.
  • Experience with agile methodologies and modern software development practices.

Compensation:

The base salary for this position ranges from $130,000 to $200,000 per annum, based on skills and experience. PayPal is committed to equitable compensation practices and offers a comprehensive benefits package.
