Role Overview

The Cardiac Care Specialist provides critical care to adult patients with life-threatening cardiac conditions during night shifts at Albany Medical Center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer medications and perform procedures as required by company policy and local/state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the nursing team to create individualized care plans for all patients.
  • Monitor complex cardiac conditions and provide primary and emergency care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Administer over-the-counter and prescription medications as ordered, and direct and guide ancillary personnel.
Working Environment

The Coronary Care Unit is a 17-bed cardiac critical care unit with each room having invasive monitoring capabilities. The patient population consists of adult patients (age 18 and older) experiencing actual or potential life-threatening cardiac dysfunction.

Requirements and Qualifications

Candidates must possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Implement physician orders, administer medications, starts IVs, perform treatments, procedures and special tests, and document treatment as required by company policy and local/state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients' conditions, and applies sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions.
  • Assesses and evaluates patient needs for, and responses to, care rendered, and collaborates with the nursing team to create a Plan of Care for all patients.
  • Provides primary and emergency care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses, and administers over-the-counter and prescription medications as ordered.
  • Directs and guides ancillary personnel and maintain standards of professional nursing.
