Position Summary
As a Surgical Technician, you will provide direct patient care under the guidance of an Operating Room Nurse. Your primary role involves scrubbing surgical procedures and assisting the Nurse with circulating duties, ensuring all necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment are readily available for each surgical case.
Education & Experience
A graduate degree from a Surgical Technician Program is preferred, along with at least one year of experience in a similar role.
Licenses & Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
Core Responsibilities
- Meticulously set up the operating room according to established guidelines for each procedure, ensuring efficient turnover between cases.
- Pursue and maintain national certification within one year of employment or upon meeting eligibility requirements for specific certifications.
- Rigorously check light sources, instruments, and accessory equipment for proper functionality before each surgery. Assist attending physicians under the direction of a physician or registered nurse.
- Maintain a sterile environment by thoroughly cleaning and preparing rooms between procedures. This includes sanitizing counters, light sources, carts, emptying suction canisters, and setting up appropriate equipment for the next procedure.
- Utilize correct procedure cards for supplies and instruments, ensuring sufficient quantities are pulled for each procedure. Accurately and promptly complete case carts.
- Contribute to room setup, assist with patient movement/transport, and participate in patient prepping procedures.
- Implement AORN standards and environmental protocols, promoting a safe and hygienic operating room environment.
- Adhere to established processes for task completion. Proactively communicate any unfinished tasks or challenges encountered to the team leader or management.
