Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Radiology Director, the Echo/Vascular Ultrasound Technologist plays a crucial role in planning, coordinating, and directing the activities of the Echo/Vascular Ultrasound Department. This position requires the ability to assist radiologists, cardiologists, and other physicians in achieving scans and films to diagnose patients undergoing ultrasound exams or sonograms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide and oversee patient care activities for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
  • Utilize imaging information systems to ensure proper utilization.
  • Work with fellow technologists to enhance cardiovascular ultrasound services and provide innovative methods and processes.
  • Participate in age-specific care and interaction.
  • Implement age-specific training and maintain a daily log for testing and changing of disinfectant for submersible equipment.
  • Perform and monitor clerical skills to document and record all statistical information and record-keeping requirements.
  • Collaborate with the lead technologist to regulate the daily patient schedule and ensure timely patient care.
  • Compile statistical data, graphs, and reports for administrative personnel and service representatives.
  • Educate other healthcare providers, personnel, and the public on the appropriate application and results of ultrasound examinations.
Requirements:
  • Two years of experience preferred working in ultrasound performance.
  • Registry eligibility required.
  • Five years of experience preferred working in ultrasound performance.
Working Conditions:
  • Sitting for long periods of time.
  • Exposure to diseases and foul odors.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to utilize hands to manipulate transducers during exams.
  • Must be able to use calculators, write, and use computer keyboards.
  • Must be able to lift and move case supplies approximately 10-25 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand approximately 2 hours per day for performing procedures.
  • Must be able to walk throughout the hospital to patient rooms and back to the Radiology Department.
  • Must be able to sit for periods of time in excess of 3 hours during performance of exams and required paperwork.
  • Must be able to climb four flights of stairs and utilize step stools.
Language Ability:
  • Must be able to read and interpret medical terms, protocol, reports, and speak to communicate with patients, their family, hospital personnel, physicians, and others.
  • Must be able to write down results of tests.
  • Must be able to verbally communicate clearly and effectively with nurses, ward clerks, and physicians.
Reasoning:
  • Must be able to make decisions when to order supplies, when to call physicians regarding abnormal exams, use knowledge to produce diagnostic information from patient complaints and/or history.
