Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Welder (Merced) to join our team at BBSI. As a key member of our fabrication department, you will be responsible for welding, cutting, and brazing metal pieces and products using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute work order procedures, gathering required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
  • Repair and fabricate various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment.
  • Monitor the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
  • Prepare, assemble, and tack weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
  • Maintain, organize, and clean equipment and the work area.
  • Notify supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
  • Operate production machinery and welders.
  • Troubleshoot production line machinery.
  • Perform equipment changeovers.
  • Responsible for quality control, making adjustments as necessary to produce product within specifications.
  • Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs).
  • Operate forklift to maintain raw material supply for the production line (if certified).
  • Complete daily production logs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on production line machinery, welders & equipment.
  • Communicate with fabricators/welders from other shifts.
  • Clean and maintain work area.
  • Turn off and lock out equipment when not in use.
  • Willing to work overtime both daily and weekends.
  • Able to work both day shift and/or second shift.
  • Must follow OSHA requirements, keeping a clean shaved facial surface around the respirator seal.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist mechanics and machinists in repair work.
  • Perform resupply of inventory for parts and production supermarkets.
  • Provide on-the-job training to new employees.
  • Order materials from other work areas when needed, maintaining material supply adhering to just in time and lean manufacturing principles.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Basic reading, writing in English, and arithmetic skills required, typically acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding, including designs, uses, maintenance, and repair.
  • Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models, and blueprints.
  • Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
  • Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.
Working Conditions

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials and product up to 50 pounds. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment, including but not limited to, eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, and work boots. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.

Physical Conditions
  • 30 to 40 percent of the job requires lifting, carrying, holding, and manipulating objects weighing over 50 pounds.
  • Able to bend over.
  • Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
  • Able to push and pull.
  • Able to stand on feet for the duration of the shift.
  • Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work, especially skill and ease in using both hands.
  • Must be able to see details at close range.
  • Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
