Job Summary

The Metal Surface Finisher is responsible for grinding, sanding, and polishing metal objects using a large polisher, small buffing machine, and sandblasting machine for two of five operations in metal conditioning (Polishing, Sandblast, Satin, Belting and/or Relieving). This position will use cloth, hand tools, and power tools to ensure a smooth surface; and will be responsible for inspecting items for flaws or cracks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Grind, sand, and polish designated components to meet quality standards.
  • Prepare component surface for further finishing processes.
  • Correct defects and mark cracks and splits for repair.
  • Polish and grind components according to specifications.
  • Adjust, start, or stop equipment during grinding/polishing process.
  • Trim and scrape components using chisels and scrapers to smooth product.
  • Clean and replace components and tooling of the polishing area.
  • Inspect components before/after process to ensure quality standards met.
  • Remove and report any non-conformant material to Quality or Lead.
  • Remove completed components and place in appropriate containers.
  • Change wheels or sanding equipment, when needed.
  • Maintain specifications and adhere to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Perform housekeeping activities in the designated work area.
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1 year experience in Production environment required.
  • Experience with high end metal polishing is preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work with power tools.
  • Ability to set up and operate polishing equipment.
  • Ability to manipulate wheel/components using proper pressure and duration to obtain desired polish.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and individual contributor.
  • Ability to use computer to review drawings / blueprints.
  • Mechanical aptitude is desired.
Language Skills
  • English (reading, writing, verbal), Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Mathematical Skills
  • Basic math skills (add, subtract, divide, multiply).
Work Environment

The Metal Surface Finisher will work in a manufacturing warehouse environment with moderate ambient conditions and moderate noise level. The position requires working in a environment with dust, fumes, cold, and heat, humidity from plating and chemical solutions.
