About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced education professional to join our team as an Expanded Learning Instructor. As a key member of our Extended Learning Program, you will be responsible for providing high-quality academic intervention and enrichment activities to transitional kindergarten (TK) and kindergarten (K) students during after-school hours.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with children, youth, and families from diverse backgrounds, and possess strong classroom management skills. They must also be able to develop and implement weekly lesson plans, communicate effectively with teachers, administration, and families, and maintain accurate records.
Responsibilities- Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment that promotes positive student behavior and social-emotional learning (SEL) competencies.
- Implement OUSD's strategies to achieve a Caring School Community and focus on building strong relationships with students, families, and staff.
- Direct and manage age-appropriate sports, games, and other recreational activities that promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
- Focus on SEL competencies, such as empathy, self-awareness, and self-regulation, and incorporate Restorative Justice problem-solving circles as needed.
- Communicate regularly with teachers, administration, and families about students' socio-emotional well-being and progress.
- Demonstrated experience working with children, youth, and families in an urban K-12 environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, teachers, and administrators.
- Strong classroom management skills and ability to develop and implement effective lesson plans.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and staff.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- Clearance of TB test, full COVID-19 vaccine, and background check required.
This part-time hourly position offers a competitive salary range of $21-$25 per hour, paid bi-weekly, depending on education, experience, and references. Benefits include quarterly professional development opportunities and a dynamic work environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Please note that this role requires a commitment to the entire school year, with a 20-25 hour per week schedule, Monday-Friday, based on the OUSD academic calendar. We offer a flexible work environment that allows for creativity, growth, and opportunities for advancement.
