Shipping Supervisor

Role Summary:
We are looking for a proactive and supportive individual to lead our Shipping team. This position entails setting and communicating daily, weekly, and monthly objectives to team members, organizing workflows by assigning tasks, and preparing schedules within a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to empower, coach, and mentor team members for their professional growth and development. The Shipping Supervisor collaborates with the team to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, timely production output, and the identification of efficiency issues while adhering to safety and quality standards. The perfect candidate is organized, analytical, and adept at problem-solving, capable of meeting deadlines and managing multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Shipping Duties:
- Analyze and interpret data to support departmental objectives.
- Review and process freight bills accurately.
- Fulfill cross-training requirements within the department and maintain the necessary documentation.
- Prepare and dispatch orders efficiently.
- Address missing shipments with the appropriate carriers.
- Order and manage supplies effectively.
- Coordinate shipments between various company locations.
- Provide daily updates on management and productivity metrics.
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Ensure shipping associates are thoroughly trained in departmental procedures and quality standards.
- Maintain shipping pace to meet customer demands and organizational goals.
- Manage employee time-off requests to ensure departmental commitments are upheld.
- Enhance departmental performance by developing contingency plans and fostering team collaboration.
- Monitor employee performance, provide constructive feedback, and conduct bi-annual performance evaluations.
Communication Duties:
- Report, track, and resolve any shortages related to parts or equipment.
- Address inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Update the daily management board with relevant information.
- Respond promptly to changes in business management or responsibilities.
Training and Development:
- Ensure team members participate in monthly EHS training sessions.
- Obtain and maintain necessary certifications for equipment operation.
- Ensure adherence to all policies and procedures regarding work attendance.
Quality Assurance:
- Assist in providing employees with accurate information to execute processes effectively.
- Maintain essential data and records for the work area.
- Conduct quality checks in accordance with established procedures and ISO standards.
Safety Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to all safety guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Promptly report any safety hazards or incidents to supervisors.
- Lift a maximum of 35 lbs individually and 70 lbs with assistance.
Workplace Organization:
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Implement 5S principles (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain).
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Technical/Business School Certificate or Diploma, Skilled Trades Apprenticeship is preferred.
- 2-5 years of shipping experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Understanding of key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Familiarity with Lean principles and responsibilities.
- Proficient in computer applications including JD Edwards and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
Work Environment:
- Fully site-based role.
- Climate-controlled manufacturing facility.
- Protective eyewear and footwear are mandatory.
