Job Summary

Cummins Inc. is seeking a skilled Metrology Technician to join our team. As a Metrology Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our measurement systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhance Measurement Accuracy: Apply technical principles of dimensional measurement science to ensure precise and reliable test systems and processes.
  • Support Product Testing: Conduct product and component testing using various measurement methods to validate product quality and performance.
  • Optimize Test Procedures: Utilize and improve established testing procedures, including automated ones, to streamline operations and increase efficiency.
  • Technical Resource: Assist lab managers, engineers, and customers in selecting appropriate test methods and technologies to enhance the overall testing strategy and outcomes.
  • Data Interpretation: Analyze and interpret measurement data to provide valuable insights for product development and quality assurance.
  • Quality Assurance: Participate in inter-laboratory comparisons and measurement assurance programs to maintain high standards and consistency in measurement results.
  • Maintain Standards: Apply knowledge of quality standards (ISO 17025, ISO 9001, AITF, and Cummins procedures) to ensure compliance and uphold the laboratory's quality system.
  • Continuous Improvement: Engage in continuous improvement activities related to data quality and the lab quality system to drive ongoing enhancements and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Customer Focus: Build strong relationships with customers and deliver solutions that are centered around their needs.
  • Data Quality: Identify, understand, and correct any flaws in data to support effective information governance.
  • Dimensional Metrology: Apply dimensional measurement science to develop and implement measurement/inspection processes.
  • Measurement Science: Analyze measurement processes to identify and quantify sources of measurement uncertainty.
  • Valuing Differences: Recognize and appreciate the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to the organization.
  • Laboratory Management: Lead technical resources while managing the business aspects of the laboratory.
  • Continuous Improvement: Engage in continuous improvement activities related to data quality and the lab quality system.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.
  • A regionally applicable Certification (US Department of Labor) or two-year Associates Degree from an accredited college program in a relevant field of study.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
  • Prefer some work experience and intermediate-level knowledge obtained through training or on-the-job experience.

Additional Requirements

  • CMM programming skills needed to measure a variety of parts to ensure they meet specifications (Zeiss Calypso proficiency preferred).
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and basic math skills are required.
  • Blueprint reading skills, understanding of (GD&T), and familiarity with surface finish measurement are a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills needed for customer interaction.
  • Job involves frequent use of hoist and crane to lift and load-unload heavy engine heads and blocks (will need medical clearance).
  • Weekend coverage will be needed as and when business needs arise.
  • This position will also involve administrative work of handling Purchase Orders, use of calibration management system, vendor interaction and management.
  • Gage calibration team support as and when needed.
