About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodian Relief and Project to join our team at Ball State University. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of our facilities, including offices, classrooms, and public areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean, renovate, and renew resilient, wood, and hard floor surface finishes
  • Maintain carpet floor coverings, including vacuuming, removing spots and stains, and extraction cleaning
  • Clean and service restrooms, including lavatory, toilet, urinal, stalls, vents, etc.
  • Dust, vacuum, clean, and/or polish furniture, surfaces, and fixtures
  • Collect and dispose of trash, refuse, recycling materials, and debris into designated receptacles
  • Sweep debris and/or sweep or shovel snow from outside entrances, landings, steps, walks; clean exterior surfaces of windows, doors, and other building fixtures
  • Clean, maintain, restock, and organize storage areas and equipment
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of job-related chemicals, environmental, health, and physical concerns
  • Lock and unlock doors in accordance with departmental policies and procedures
  • Set rooms according to custodial work sheet and customer specifications
  • Guide and assist in training student custodial employees

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Must be able to climb ladders and/or scaffolding of various heights to perform duties
  • Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, and University policies and procedures, communications, and perform basic mathematical calculations
  • No allergies to soaps, cleaning agents, or other materials or environmental factors in custodial service
  • Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty
  • Must successfully pass manlift certification, if position requires it, within a reasonable period of time after hire
  • Must have at least one year work experience (full time or part time)
  • Must be 18 years or older

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in custodial service
