Sports Coach

Job Summary

We are seeking a Sports Coach to lead sports classes for children and adults of all ages at the YMCA of Greater Boston. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, expertise in various sports, and the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities
The Sports Coach will be responsible for:
• Coaching sports programs using provided curriculum and designing own activities that emphasize skill development, sportsmanship, and our core values of Caring, Honest, Respect, and Responsibility.
• Demonstrating designed skills and outcomes to foster learning and skill development.
• Maintaining group focus and attention to activities being run, with a strong coaching presence that positively redirects participants when needed.
• Meeting players where they are at in age and skill level, challenging them with achievable skills, drills, and games suitable for their age group.
• Maintaining a safe playing environment by reducing risks, ensuring guidelines are followed, and age-appropriate play.
• Preparing for each class session, reviewing and practicing skills, drills, and activities, setting up the play field in advance, and cleaning up afterwards.
• Providing feedback to players in real-time to help them improve their skills, using positive encouragement and motivational statements.
• Serving as a role model, setting the tone for expected behavior.
• Communicating with parents, sharing successes, challenges, and information in a professional and respectful manner.
• Keeping accurate records for attendance.
• Ensuring policies and procedures for attendance, participation, and safety are followed at all times.
• Attending meetings, required trainings, events, and additional functions within the YMCA as needed.

Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
• One to two years of related experience, preferably as a sports coach or volunteer.
• CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications, which we provide upon hire.
• Excellent relationship-building and conflict resolution skills to facilitate positive relationships with parents, staff, children, and community partners.
• Excellent coaching skills, providing clear instruction, feedback, and positive motivation.
• Detail-oriented, strong organizational, and planning skills.
• Ability to manage small and large groups of children and/or adults.
• An energetic, motivated, and well-organized individual who has a passion for children and sports.

Benefits
As a member of our team, you will enjoy a competitive salary range of $40,000-$60,000 per year, depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement savings, and paid time off.
