Diesel Mechanic Job Description

A&A Ready Mixed Concrete is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, adjusting, and repairing all series of motor truck and trailer equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services on truck and trailer equipment.
  • Diagnose, rebuild, and repair fleet equipment, including tractors, trailers, and mixer units.
  • Prepare work orders manually and on a computer.
  • Identify warrantable repairs and document.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Work in a safe manner, adhering to company, local, state, and federal policies and regulations.
  • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units.
  • Perform minor welding.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions or ensure proper operation.
  • Raise trucks and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other critical parts to ensure proper operation.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as computers, motor analyzers, and pressure gauges.
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Perform duties with minimal supervision and in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Specialize in repairing and troubleshooting major components, such as engines, transmissions, and differentials, including replacing or rebuilding complete assemblies, turbochargers, fuel systems, and after-treatment systems.
  • Assist in training other employees and act as a mentor.
  • Willingness to travel to close geographical locations as necessary.
Requirements:
  • 6 years of practical experience with tractor-trailer maintenance.
  • Proficiency in the use of all tools of the trade, including welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of Excel, Word, Fleet Management Systems, and email.
  • Ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle to determine proper operation.
  • Must provide own tools and toolbox.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational or technical certification preferred.
  • Specialized training and experience in the diagnosis and troubleshooting of major components, such as engines, transmissions, and differentials, or OEM training courses required.
  • Effective communication skills in the English language, both written and verbal.
Language Skills:

Candidate must have effective communication skills in the English language, both written and verbal.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Current CDL license with air brake certification required.
  • ASE Certification and 608/609 certifications required (Master T preferred).
Physical Demands:
  • Required to remember and understand certain instructions, guidelines, or other information.
  • Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Will be required to move frequently, stand, walk, and sit.
  • Carrying, pushing, pulling, kneeling, stooping, climbing, balancing.
  • Use hands to touch, handle, and feel, and to reach with hands and arms, including overhead.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50lbs/23kg and occasionally team lift and/or move up to 100lbs/45kg.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, hazardous chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is regularly exposed to wet or slippery ground conditions. Employee must wear required personal protective equipment, including safety vests, hard hats, ear protection, gloves, and safety glasses.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. However, serves as a mentor to other employees in the apprentice program and as required.
