Eligibility:This position is open exclusively to current federal employees within the agency.

Key Responsibilities:This position functions as a Clinical Laboratory Specialist.
The individual in this role will develop, execute, assess, interpret, correlate, and validate the precision of laboratory processes and outcomes.
Laboratory testing will be conducted on various biological specimens and/or environmental samples utilizing both manual and automated methods, necessitating a significant degree of independent judgment and accountability with minimal technical oversight.
Core Duties include but are not limited to:
- Conducting a comprehensive array of laboratory tests, encompassing all responsibilities typical of the clinical laboratory specialist role.
- Executing advanced and intricate laboratory procedures; identifying deviations from anticipated results; troubleshooting and resolving issues using scientific methodologies.
- Assessing and addressing challenges related to the collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis, considering physiological processes and requirements.
- Maintaining and documenting the optimal operation of laboratory instruments. This includes calibration, identifying malfunctions, performing repairs, and conducting preventive maintenance.
- Diagnosing discrepancies in test performance due to equipment issues.
- Implementing and documenting quality control and assurance measures and corrective actions related to testing performance, employing statistical principles and performance improvement theories.
- Adhering to regulations and practices governing biosafety and biosecurity within the workplace.
- Responding to inquiries regarding test outcomes, methodologies, specificity, sensitivity, and factors influencing test results. Interpreting findings and recommending follow-up tests or procedures.
- Evaluating and integrating new techniques and procedures in the laboratory concerning equipment, method comparisons, and establishing reference intervals using statistical methods and theoretical knowledge.
- Incorporating educational methodologies in training new staff and students.
- Effectively communicating and collaborating as a member of the healthcare team, providing exceptional service as defined by stakeholders.
- Organizing tasks and prioritizing to meet deadlines.
- Performing additional responsibilities as assigned.
Work Schedule:
Dayshift or noon - 8pm (to be determined) with rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications:Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Proficiency in English.
- Education and/or Experience: A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a related field, along with completion of a clinical practice program.
Candidates must possess the appropriate certification as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) from recognized certification bodies.
