Job Summary

The Minnesota Probation and Pretrial Services is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Probation Officer to join our team. As a Probation Officer, you will be responsible for supervising and rehabilitating individuals on probation, providing guidance and support to help them overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular home and office visits to monitor probationers' progress and provide guidance and support as needed.
  • Develop and implement individualized case plans to help probationers achieve their goals and overcome challenges.
  • Collaborate with other agencies and organizations to provide probationers with access to resources and services.
  • Conduct investigations and gather evidence to support probationers' compliance with court orders.
  • Prepare and present reports to the court on probationers' progress and any issues that may arise.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field, such as social work, psychology, or criminal justice.
  • At least one year of experience in a related field, such as community corrections or social services.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various locations as needed.

Working Conditions

The Probation Officer will work in an office setting and in the community, with regular contact with individuals who have violent backgrounds. The position requires moderate to arduous physical exercise, including prolonged periods of walking and standing, and the use of self-defense tactics.

Selection Process

Candidates selected for interviews will be required to participate in job-related screening as part of the selection process. Prior to appointment, the selected candidate must undergo a local records check, full OPM background investigation, fingerprinting, medical examination, check of financial and credit records, and drug screening.
