We are seeking a skilled Diesel Tractor Mechanic to join our team at Dayton Freight. As a Diesel Tractor Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing maintenance services on our fleet of tractors, ensuring they are in good working condition and meet our high standards.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose and repair complex diesel engine problems using advanced troubleshooting techniques and diagnostic programs.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake pad replacements.
- Test and repair entire truck chassis electrical systems, including wiring and electrical components.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of all major power and drive train components, including engines, transmissions, and axles.
- Effectively and efficiently perform PM inspections and services, adhering to Dayton Freight's policies and time standards.
- Repair, adjust, and align suspension systems and brake systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Maintain the tire maintenance program, ensuring all tires are properly inflated and rotated.
- Perform service calls, following Dayton Freight's guidelines and location-specific procedures.
- Wash and fuel equipment as needed, maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Perform vehicle road tests to ensure quality repair service is performed.
- Perform other maintenance duties or assignments as necessary.
- Develop a positive attitude and interact courteously and professionally with fellow employees.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment, adhering to OSHA and company standards.
- Record all work and labor on a computer in the EMS system.
- Work with the Parts Department to ensure all necessary materials, parts, and supplies are maintained at proper levels.
- Comply with all Parts Department procedures and rules at all times.
- Continuously improve processes and procedures to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
- Possess a valid Driver's License.
- Basic math skills.
- Fluent in English.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Able to pass a drug screen.
